Constructed of bronze, the obverse bearing a raised Viking ship carrying Athena and an owl, above waves bearing the coat of arms of Kln (Cologne), the revere bearing a raised inscription of UNIVERSITT DER HANSESTADT KLN 1388 1938 (UNIVERSITY OF THE HANSEATIC CITY OF COLOGNE 1388 1938), unmarked, measuring 70 mm in diameter, with some oxidation evident in addition to gouging of the obverse edge near the five oclock
